Welcome. If you’ve found your way here, you probably came for one of two reasons—an interest in Scripture and the Christian life, or an interest in technology and data. This blog has room for both, and I’ll try to serve both readers well.
What You’ll Find Here
I write on five broad subjects:
- Biblical studies and the Christian faith. What the text says, what it meant to its first audience, and what it asks of us now.
- Prayer and ministry. Practical, honest writing about the spiritual life—not idealized, but real.
- Technology, data modeling, and AI. Four decades in the field have given me a long view of what changes and what does not.
- Family and personal history. The stories that shaped me and the ones worth preserving.
- Reflections from a long career. Lessons that took years to learn and can be stated in a few paragraphs—if I do my job well.
Some Context, Briefly
I spent forty years working in technology and data, alongside formal biblical training and years of teaching. I am now retired from full-time work, surrounded by family, and writing about the things I have had a lifetime to consider. That is the résumé; the writing is the point.
How I Write
A few commitments I try to keep, so you know what you are getting:
- Complex subjects made understandable. Whether it is a prophetic passage, a database schema, or how a language model actually works, I believe almost anything can be explained clearly if you respect both the reader and the subject.
- Scripture distinguished from interpretation and opinion. When I say, “The Bible teaches,” I mean that I believe the conclusion is supported by the text. When I say, “I conclude,” or identify what another author argues, that is human reasoning—worth considering, but not authoritative. Conclusions may be mine or drawn from writers I respect, but Scripture is always the final authority. I will keep those categories distinct so that you can evaluate each on its own merits.
- Sources preserved. Where it matters, I will show my work through references and citations. I will also preserve the relevant context of source material rather than reducing it to a convenient paraphrase.
- Candor about disagreement. Faithful, serious Christians hold different positions on many subjects, including creation, eschatology, and church practice. I will tell you where I stand and why, but I will not pretend other positions do not exist or assume that everyone holding them is careless.
